Here are food pantries where you can receive groceries or a hot meal across Chicago.

Across Chicago, one in four people face food insecurity.

To help neighbors find free food, Borderless compiled a list of neighborhood food pantries, mutual aid groups, and local community organizations that provide access to fresh food and groceries on a weekly or monthly basis.

How to use this guide:

  • Find your ZIP code using this map.
  • Then, scroll to your ZIP code, which is listed in this guide from 60601 to 60827.
  • For each ZIP code, you will see the scheduled food distributions from your local food pantry or mutual aid group.

If you have questions about operating hours or food provided, please contact the food pantry or mutual aid group listed directly. Some pantries may not be open during the Thanksgiving and Christmas weekends. Please call to check availability if you plan to visit during these times.

This resource guide provides additional information about the various services offered by food pantries, mutual aid groups, and local community organizations.

Food pantries: Many of the resources listed are food pantries partnering with the Greater Chicago Food Depository. You can use GCFD’s food pantry finder online here. (*GCFD pantries appear on this list with an asterisk.)

These pantries often distribute food at specific times each week or month. They may ask you for your name and ZIP code, but this information is not shared publicly. GCFD representatives stated that they collect information to determine which pantries require additional food and to ensure that all pantries are well-stocked according to community needs.

All GCFD pantries are accessible to anyone, regardless of immigration status. Neighbors are recommended to go to the GCFD pantry closest to them, but are not required to do so.

Mutual aid groups: Mutual aid groups are informal networks of community members that support neighbors through one-on-one connections or pop-up distribution events. You can find mutual aid groups offering free food through this list and this map compiled by Community Kitchen.

Local businesses and community organizations: Some community organizations and businesses have small food pantries and refrigerators stocked with groceries. These are typically open during a location’s business hours and don’t have specific distribution times.

Don’t see a food pantry or mutual aid group on this list? Contact [email protected] or [email protected] with your information, and we’ll add you to the list!
