Borderless Magazine Selected for LION Growth Grant

Borderless Magazine has been selected as one of 15 publishers nationwide to receive a $100,000 grant from LION Publishers. The two-year operational grant will support Borderless Magazine in strengthening its business operations and long-term sustainability.

Borderless Magazine has been selected as one of 15 publishers nationwide to receive a $100,000 grant from LION Publishers.

The two-year operational grant will support Borderless Magazine in strengthening its business operations and long-term sustainability. 

The Growth Grants from LION are designed to help independent news organizations invest in internal systems and strategies that allow them to better serve their communities, according to LION Publishers.

“This funding helps reinforce our commitment to immigrant communities while deepening our impact at a pivotal time in our country’s history,” said CJ Ortuño, Chief Development Officer. 

Borderless Magazine was selected from a competitive pool of more than 220 applicants across 48 states and territories. Applications for LION’s Growth Grant were reviewed through a rigorous, multi-round process that included evaluation by LION staff and an external review committee composed of leaders from journalism support organizations, funders, and media experts nationwide.

Borderless Magazine joins the following publishers selected for the 2026 Growth Grants cohort:

9 Millones; Arizona Luminaria; Dallas Free Press; DC Witness & Baltimore Witness; El Tímpano; Excelsior Citizen; India Currents; Kansas City Defender; LebTown; LOOKOUT Publications; Mat-Su Sentinel; Se Habla Media; The Kerr County Lead; and The Pulp.
