Cuando me mud\u00e9 a Seattle no era as\u00ed, y me di cuenta de que no hab\u00eda mucha gente que se pareciera a m\u00ed en esos programas de amistad.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Quer\u00eda hacer un espect\u00e1culo sobre un grupo de personas que eran como yo, algo confusas, y que tambi\u00e9n abrazaban muchas partes de s\u00ed mismas, como su comunidad, sus carreras y su familia.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Creo que los programas de amistad son muy cat\u00e1rticos. Hay una raz\u00f3n por la que la gente cocina y duerme con estos programas. Da la sensaci\u00f3n de que los personajes son tus amigos. Las personas que mostr\u00e9 en Code-Switched son los tipos de relaciones y espacios que yo ocupaba. Quer\u00eda ofrecer eso a la gente.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Revista Borderless: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00bfC\u00f3mo est\u00e1n los medios de comunicaci\u00f3n a la hora de retratar a los sudasi\u00e1ticos?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Karan Sunil: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Creo que los medios de comunicaci\u00f3n tienden a hacer que los inmigrantes parezcan un grupo homog\u00e9neo.  Hay tantos tipos diferentes de inmigrantes, formas de inmigraci\u00f3n, y muchas historias delante de nosotros, en personas que vemos todos los d\u00edas, que a\u00fan no se han contado.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La verdad es que me siento muy animado por muchos de los trabajos que han salido en los dos \u00faltimos a\u00f1os. Busqu\u00e9 durante meses espect\u00e1culos de comedia en Chicago, desde entradas de pago hasta micr\u00f3fonos abiertos en restaurantes mexicanos y bares deportivos. Quer\u00eda encontrar a cinco personas que encarnaran de alg\u00fan modo los papeles de los personajes. Sonal a\u00f1adi\u00f3 una textura a Priya porque ella misma es india, vive en Chicago y tiene una relaci\u00f3n especial con su madre. As\u00ed que construimos esos personajes juntos.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Revista Borderless: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00bfQu\u00e9 tipo de historias quer\u00eda contar en Code-Switched?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Karan Sunil: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Como el reparto y yo somos predominantemente sudasi\u00e1ticos, quer\u00edamos hacer chistes y re\u00edrnos de nosotros mismos, porque a menudo los chistes que se hacen sobre nosotros son de gente blanca.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Quer\u00eda construir una serie en la que los personajes sudasi\u00e1ticos no persiguieran la blancura. Los personajes de Code-Switched est\u00e1n centrados en su carrera y en resolver sus vidas, pero tambi\u00e9n en recoger los frutos de esos sacrificios.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Quer\u00eda humanizarlo.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Revista Borderless: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00bfCu\u00e1l es su escena favorita?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Karan Sunil: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Una de mis partes favoritas es cuando <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/o_2Shg74ZR4?t=192\">Los padres paquistan\u00edes musulmanes de Zara tienen una cita en una escena, y Zara y Rahul tienen una cita en otra escena.<\/a><\/span> El padre de Zara, de 50 a\u00f1os, y Rahul, de 20, hac\u00edan lo mismo, intentaban hacer re\u00edr a su pareja y ser cursis.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Consigue mucho de lo que quer\u00eda hacer con la serie en una sola secuencia, que era mostrar diferentes perspectivas. Lo hice para celebrarlo con nosotros mismos, con nuestro elenco y con la comunidad c\u00f3mica de Chicago, a la que adoro. No ten\u00eda expectativas en cuanto a cifras o alcance, porque no ten\u00edamos presupuesto de marketing ni hab\u00edamos sido creados con una empresa.
